Indentifying Genre and Target Audience

Having gone through the options of various genres, we have decided upon the genre of 'horror/thriller' - with the sub-genres of 'action' and .psychological '. We have made this decision as the genre is perhaps the most interesting to accomplish in terms of the conventional aspects. The genre offers us definitive objectives in terms of approach; especially regarding the execution of the advertising package with the trailer and the poster. Another advantage is the specific target audience that comes with this genre: teenages (age 14-19) and young adults (age 20-30), both male and female. The specificity presents us with clearer goals, in terms of our intentions in meeting the requirements of this particular target audience.

In terms of the sub-genres, we want our product to be exciting, enthralling and 'action packed' for our audience; hence the 'action' [thriller] sub-genre. We also want to make our product relatively original, but also meeting the conventions of the horror/thriller genre. We also want to delve into human psychology; primarily the feeling of 'fear' and fear itself. The idea of paranoia interests us greatly, also. This is where the sub-genre of 'psychological' [thriller] comes from.

From this point onwards, we will collaborate these ideas into a premise (or a proposal), including a story, intended conventions and the promotional packages (such as the trailer and the posters) - as well as the magazine covers.
